On October 17, the 5th Frontier Science and Technology Forum on Unmanned Undersea Systems was held in Fuzhou. Co-hosted by the Chinese Society of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (CSNAME) and the 705th Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation(CSSC), and co-organized by the National Key Laboratory of Underwater Information and Control, the Science and Technology Committee of the 705th Research Institute/CSSC Hualei, and the Fujian Society of Ship and Ocean Engineering, the forum was undertaken by the Editorial Office of the Journal of Unmanned Undersea Systems. Tan Yunkun, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of the Fujian Provincial People's Congress; Gao Zhen, Fellow of the Norwegian Academy of Technological Sciences and Distinguished Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University; Wang Junli, Vice President and Secretary-General of CSNAME; and Yang Yunchuan, Deputy Director of the 705th Research Institute, attended the forum and delivered addresses. Gao Shuangcheng, member of the Party Leadership Group of the Standing Committee of the Fuzhou Municipal People's Congress; Ding Hongping, Second-Level Inspector of the Fujian Association for Science and Technology; Qian Lifang, member of the Party Leadership Group and Vice Chairman of the Fuzhou Association for Science and Technology; and Yin Jingwei, President of Harbin Engineering University, attended the forum. The opening ceremony was presided over by Shi Xiaofeng, Director of the Science and Technology Committee of the 705th Research Institute.

With the theme of "Green Intelligence in Harmony, Linking the Blue Ocean," the 2026 World Marine Equipment Conference grandly opened on October 16–19 at the Fuzhou Strait International Conference and Exhibition Center. As an important component of the conference's series of academic activities, the 5th Frontier Science and Technology Forum on Underwater Unmanned Systems focused on frontier technologies of underwater unmanned systems, committed to advancing the deep integration of industry, academia, research, and application in this field, promoting the research, development, and upgrading of marine unmanned systems equipment, facilitating the industrial application of unmanned system technologies in the marine domain, and building a high-end, authoritative academic exchange platform that integrates exchange, communication, and industry-academia-research-application collaboration for science and technology professionals.
With the theme of "Converging Collective Intelligence, Joining Forces for Collaboration," the forum invited a number of experts to deliver keynote reports, including Pan Guang, Professor at Northwestern Polytechnical University; Xie Shaorong, Researcher at Shanghai University; Xu Xiaojun, Professor at National University of Defense Technology; Liu Yeyao, Senior Engineer at the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences; He Yunze, Professor at Hunan University; Jiang Yanqing, Associate Professor (tenure-track) at Harbin Engineering University; Tong Feng, Professor at Xiamen University; Xie Guangming, Professor at Peking University; Chen Deshan, Researcher at Wuhan University of Technology; and Yi Jinbao, Researcher at the 705th Research Institute. Their reports covered key technologies of underwater unmanned systems; the safety architecture of autonomous intelligent unmanned surface vehicles in the ocean; configuration innovation and practice of trans-medium unmanned platforms; underwater acoustic communication networking and coordination of deep-sea underwater equipment; multi-modal surface perception of unmanned surface vessels; the Wukong 1000 AUV formation system; underwater acoustic communication of unmanned equipment in complex deep-sea environments; bio-inspired underwater intelligent perception; distributed three-dimensional perception of underwater disasters; and metal-energy eddy-electric hybrid propulsion for medium-to-large underwater unmanned vehicles. Approaching from multiple dimensions including technological frontiers, equipment development, and engineering applications, the experts offered in-depth discussions on feasible development paths and innovative models for underwater unmanned systems, contributing advice and insights to advance frontier technological breakthroughs and the industrial application of China's underwater unmanned systems.

The report sessions were presided over by Hu Qiao, Professor at Xi'an Jiaotong University; Yu Jiancheng, Professor at Xiamen University; and Cai Weijun, Researcher at the 705th Research Institute. More than 150 experts and scholars from universities, research institutes, and relevant industry organizations participated in the forum.
