Direction of Arrival(DOA) Estimation of Multiple Sources in the Air Using Small-aperture Arrays

  • A method of direction of arrival (DOA) estimation for multiple sources using a small aperture array is presented. Firstly, four beams are formed using wideband distortionless beamforming method, which divides the whole space into four separated regions. Then the beam outputs are calculated and taken as the signal received by a reference point. Finally, time delays between the signal received by the reference point and each element of the array are estimated by the generalized correlation method, thus the sources in each region can be localized by the time delay-based DOA estimation method. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by computer simulations.
